The Republican Party of Washington state held a presidential preference caucus on Saturday which ended with Mitt Romney being declared the victor. Ron Paul was able to lock in the 2nd place finish pushing Rick Santorum to third and Newt Gingrich to fourth place.

Report from USAToday:

WASHINGTON (AP) – Mitt Romney has won the Washington state Republican caucuses.

The former Massachusetts governor easily defeated former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum and Congressman Ron Paul, who were battling for second place. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich trailed further behind. Forty delegates are at stake in the state.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, had 173 delegates at the beginning of the day, according to an Associated Press count that includes party officials who will vote on the selection of a nominee but are not selected at primaries or caucuses. Santorum had 87, Gingrich 33 and Paul 20. It takes 1,144 delegates to win the nomination at the Republican National Convention this summer in Tampa.

This is a non-binding contest meaning Washington's delegates won't be formally chosen until later in the spring, however, this is the first step in divvying them up. Full results to follow on Sunday.

I certainly hope Mitt Romney will be our next nominee, and our next President. Heaven help us all if Obama is re elected. I cannot imagine that so many American people could be this stupid!! It is very clear that our Country is headed in the wrong direction. Watch Fox News for fair and balanced reporting. You will never receive any honest reporting from this Main Stream Media.

FOX News is no different than any other MSM Outlet. In fact, they are more open and blatant about their LIES! Check it out for yourself. This is why Ron Paul doesn't bother with Fox. He knows that they're on the side of the "Establishment". Fair and Balanced? It's time for Conservatives to Turn that Crap off. I have.

Urge ALL to demand a Receipt for their Vote, or implement Civil Disobedience — block the voting line until they give you a Voting Receipt, specifying the Candidate and time and place, you voted for!

I will not cast my vote unless they give me a VALID Receipt — and I'll make a BIG Stink about it, even if they have to bring in the Police!

I'll state at the voting precinct: My vote is for Ron Paul, give me a receipt stating this, or tell the Police you called, that you want them to arrest me, because you REFUSE to Guarantee my Vote counted!

It is sad to see the party run so many beauty contest.

What's even more sad is knowing that Mitt Romney is being "placed" as the Frontrunner by the GOP "Establishment". It won't matter who you vote for.

I was at a Straw Poll today in NYS where Mitt Romney only received 6 votes. All the other candidates received 6-7 Times as many.

If Romney is the Nominee, it will be John McCain all over again and Obama will win.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who can be contrasted Conservatively against Barack Obama. It's sad to see so many voters who are so Economically Illiterate that they will vote for the "Beauty", instead of the Statesman.

I couldn't agree with you more, Ron Paul is the only choice!

Even CNN is now saying that Ron Paul Might Be Just What America Needs! Follow her analysis. NONE of the other Candidates talk about "Actual" Government Spending Cuts. And with a 0% Income Tax for ALL Americans, the influx of Capital and Jobs would be of epic proportions!

The People are voting for Ron Paul but the voting machines are rigged against him. This has been proven on both CNN and FOX. Where paper ballots are used, they are 'counted' at secret locations! Suspicious? VOTE FRAUD 2012

FYI - The Income Tax isn't actually a tax at all. Look in the IRS's own book and you'll see it's written down as a voluntary donation! It's no more mandatory than giving to charity! Ron Paul wants to repeal the 16th Amendment, but he should already know that the 16th Amendment was never ratified as not enough congressmen signed it!

            VOTE FRAUD 2012

  • Andrew C

I call it fraud, they're calling a 'winner' with 0% report. shame shame shame

    • Surfisher

The only way to prevent voter fraud is to get a receipt.

When I invest into a product — buying a steak at the supermarket per say — they give me a receipt for my investment (shows the item code# and the date and time of my investment (purchasing in good faith, upon accountability by vendor, that I received the right product))!

Elections MUST be held to at least the same standard, as buying a steak — when people invest into their Right To Vote, give them a VALID receipt for their investment!

If States can issue millions of Lottery Tickets weekly, that cannot be forged — why not be FORCED to do the same during the rare elections?!

Without a RECEIPT, what government assurance do you have that your vote actually COUNTED…?!

  • Seth

Romney is so optimistic its sad. I predict he will have no more than half of his projected delegates come the end of spring.

  • Jeremy Nrock

It's sad that the media has completely set the tone for this race.

  • Clint Murphy

Darryl, so true and so sad!

  • Nate

That was so lame! Just have a primary for crying out loud. And Romney? Seriously!

  • Matthew S

Why is it every time I turn on the Fox News I either see basically "Obama sucks" or "yay Mitt Romney!!!!"? Perhaps that is a huge factor in Mitt winning these things…because the media is obviously endorsing him in my opinion and people are just believing everything the t.v tells them. It's pretty sad. Booooo Mitt, Rick, and Newt; those guys are not going to help this country or fix the problems that Obama and previous presidents created. Ron Paul needs to win this election.

  • Dave

What a joke Romney has no chance!!

I was at the WA caucus today, and was precinct chair. At our table were voters from three districts, 12 people in total, with 11 delegate slots to go to the county convention. Out of the 12 people, 7 were Paul supporters, but guess what, all eleven delegate slots went to Ron Paul supports, with one alternate slot going to Santorum. The same story has been repeated all over the country. Look for a brokered convention in August.

Truth b told is that whoever gets in if that person is not a crook now he will b soon thereafter. And if Osama stays in then the U.S. will fall like Roman Empire did so many many years ago.

  • Anne

I think that we should do away with caucus's, and the electoral college, and let the popular vote be the example. Ron Paul would definately get the job, and all those on capitol hill wouldn't have a chance.

  • Scooter

I worked on the Ron Paul (RP) campaign phone bank in WA state. My own gut feel for the folks I called, and crowds I witnessed at Ron Paul, is that RP may have done much better running as a democrat.

Many folks I called were in the 200K income bracket, and they want a "status quo" election. translation: they like the USA as it is, owned by the international banks, devoted to war.. unemployment etc. Because they are doing quite well by it. Then there's the dumbbells, who vote for sanatorium, because he has lots of kids. Simple, the latter group deserves the county they voted for. Or idiots who vote for Ginggrich who said we need to help the banks shore up there house ownership values. hehe, sheesh.

Or for Romney, who said, hey, the jews have had the white house since 1913 with enless barrowing and wars. Now the Mormons get to have their turn , for lots of stealing, and perhaps a Mormon war or two.

  • Not Ron Paul, Woody. He has been in congress 30 years and remains uncorruptible. Any candidate, other than Paul, will continue their contributions to the death of our republic. The Roman civilization spanned a thousand years and Romans could not imagine that their world could ever be vanquished. But the Republic was lost to the Caesars and it's fate certain. Like our political elites today, they could not call themselves Kings and feigned Republican values. In the end, Rome never did completely vanish. The social contracts and the civility that evolved among people found it's expression as Rome floundered by the rule of Kings. That form spoke to the individual and then, too, represented a compromise between King or No King. The King of Kings was born in the hearts of men as a reminder that earth-bound Kings, too, must answer to a higher authority. So as the republic today flounders once again, there will be no compromise. That authority is already in place and it is called the United States Constitution.

Ron Paul … is the last hope for freedom .. still the media ignore him … Ron Paul 2012.

  • Joe

Support the troops. Support Ron Paul.

`Yes, and, sadly if Santorum should be the nominee, Obama will more than likely be the victor in the general election; social issues, in general, are not what this country needs to be concerned about. Economics & finances followed by foreign policy should easily trump abortion, contraception, definition of marriage, and likely even issues with immigration. In addition to that, if one examines the record carefully, Santorum does not really have a hardcore history of being fiscally conservative; I am NOT saying that Romney is THE ONE either. My feeling is that the Republicans

    Go Romney! From Canada

Did you watch Huck' soap opera?

Every person on this page(except for the Canadian and the woman who thinks that Fox isn't main stream and is actually fair and balanced) is for Ron Paul. Or at least against Romney. Romney is simply another Obama. If you want someone who actually KNOWS what the constitution says vote Ron Paul. If you want someone who can actually beat Obama as the polls that they wont show on mainstream say-vote Ron Paul. If you want our country to actually be "the land of the free" again, vote Ron Paul. Basically, if you want REAL change(not like Obama promised in '08) VOTE RON PAUL 2012!!!

    • Surfisher

      Drea—

But unless you get a Receipt for whom you voted — how do you now your vote counted?

The only way to prevent voter fraud is to get a receipt.

When I invest into a product — buying a steak at the supermarket per say — they give me a receipt for my investment (shows the item code# and the date and time of my investment (purchasing in good faith, upon accountability by vendor, that I received the right product))!!!

  • You know, they don't allow us to comment on these threads until the results are in. What's that all about?

  • Surfish, you are right. It was Stalin who said…to paraphrase, "It's not the voters that win elections, it's the people that count the votes." We've got a problem here with media, pollsters, and those connected bias. Howeve, we have enough federal mandates. If the county doesn't know how to count votes, I'll move!!!

  • Larry

Stop reading this forum. GOOGLE RON PAUL NOW!

  • Neville

This might interest some people. The first set of data below is the "official result" from Thurston County, in Washington state, from yesterday's caucus.

1,140 people voted in the presidential preference poll, in Thurston County, with the following result published (Google Politics, CNN, etc.):

    (percent) (candidate) (#votes)
    40.4 Romney 485 votes
    26.4 Paul 317
    20.5 Santorum 246
    7.7 Gingrich 92

That's the people who come and fill out their "preference poll" ballot, turn it in, and then maybe stay around for the actual delegate selection. But most of these folks don't stay, because they are not involved enough in the political process of choosing candidates to stick around. Thus, the actual work of delegate selection falls to the more engaged and serious voters.

Here is the result of precinct-by-precinct summary forms handed in at the end of a pooled caucus delegate vote in the same county:

(168 delegates were elected in the precinct caucus delegate meetings, in this pooled caucus from Thurston County, shown below as #delegates + #alternates)

    75 + 41 (116 total) Paul
    13 + 12 (25 total) Romney
    12 + 5 (17 total) Santorum
    3 + 5 (8 total) Gingrich
    168 total (delegates + alternates)

Using just the delegate counts, and not the alternates, and changing to percentages, it looks like:
    72.8% Paul
    12.6 Romney
    11.7 Santorum
    2.9% Gingrich

No matter what you hear or read on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. this is how the delegate selection process actually works. In fact, it works pretty much this way in many Primary states as well, not just in caucus states. However, in the Primary states those delegates are generally required (bound) to go the national convention and vote for a certain candidate, whether or not they support that candidate. After 1, 2, sometimes 3 ballots, if it goes that long, then even the Primary-state delegates are free to vote for their chosen (not assigned) candidate.

Many will be surprised by the unleashing of the Ron Paul beast. It is fierce, well-armed, and purpose-driven, with a fire in its belly. Here there be dragons! :-) (a good story always needs a good tagline, doesn't it?)

Feel free to share, not conservatively, but liberally.
