Eight candidates confirmed for September 7th GOP debate

Politico and NBC News have announced the eight confirmed participants for the September 7th Reagan Library debate in Simi Valley, California. Of course, the list is missing former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty whose place will essentially be taken by Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Air Date: Wednesday, September 7th at 8pm EST on MSNBC

Report from Politico:

The eight qualifying GOP presidential candidates have agreed to attend the Sept. 7 Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation debate.

The Reagan Foundation, in conjunction with POLITICO and NBC News, will announce Thursday that Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum plan to appear on stage at the Reagan presidential library in Simi Valley, Calif.

The post-Labor Day debate, the fourth this year, will be Perry’s first since announcing his candidacy Aug. 13.

Former first lady Nancy Reagan sent an invitation to the presidential hopefuls who meet the eligibility standards, which require that a candidacy be formally announced and that a candidate captures at least 4 percent in one of eight national polls.

MSNBC will broadcast the debate live from the Reagan library’s Air Force One Pavilion at 8 p.m. ET. POLITICO will stream the proceedings live on its website.

CNBC and Telemundo (in Spanish) will also broadcast the debate.

Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News,” and John F. Harris, editor in chief of POLITICO, will moderate.

Each debate thus far has gotten better in terms of candidate interaction and the energy of the questions. I can only assume that with a new participant on stage, one who is ruffling a lot of feathers, we can expect to see a great show of policy discussion and some stinging jabs between candidates.

You can't keep a good man down, and those who try will regret it when U.S. Representative Thaddeus G. McCotter (MI) gets his turn.
I know that I am learning a lot about who plays fair, and who fears fair play.

As far as I am concernced Newt is the man with a point by point plan of action. He has knowledge of laws that have been passed that need repealing.

  • RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL!!!!!!!! DON'T SLEEP ON HIM OR THIS COUNTRY WILL GO DOWN THE GUTTER!!

Why any Rebublican hopeful would go on a program aired by NBC and having Politico as a mate, whether they have the numbers to be invited or not, is unclear to me.

Why was the debate not aired on public television? When I couldn't find it on FREE TV I had to resort to the internet, what's up whidat? Note of clarification: Got rid of satelite and cable over a decade ago (I heard that a lot in the debate "a decade ago!" Sounded kinda cool and important so I thought I'd throw it in, and besides, it is True!)

I couldn't find the debate either. I don't subscribe to MSNBC. Nobody watches it anyway. I don't think Paul has enough support and he is kind of goofy on getting rid of our military, other than that he is OK. I think that Romney is the best bet as far as experience and economics. Gingrich is the smartest otherwise. Rick Perry signed a dream act for wetbacks…so he is out in my book. HE is as bad as the morons in California. If Obama gets his way, there will not be an election. Think about it. He said he intended to fundamentally change America even if it meant he would be a one term president. He and Rahm will come up with a crisis to postpone the election and declare martial law (see changes to the Patriot act)and stay in office. Hide and watch!
